Creative Inc won an international tender to rebrand EUMETSAT, a European agency involved in monitoring weather, and the environment from space.
EUMETSAT was formed in 1986 with the primary task of monitoring weather, climate and the environment from space, delivering global benefit through the specialised monitoring of the planet via the satellites it operates. Creative Inc won an international tender to design a new corporate style for all its communication material both online and offline.
The first stage of the project involved a debriefing with the key stakeholders at EUMETSAT’s HQ in Frankfurt and a tour through the organisation to better understand its vision, strategy, operational and communication issues and its contribution to global welfare.
The next stage involved a formal presentation to the communications team, showing different design routes and rationale. The challenge was to not only address the issues with the existing positioning and brand architecture, but to create a strong visual solution which would help the organisation with regards to its strategic intent. Broadly speaking, we created two strands to EUMETSAT’s visual communication; the marriage of pinpoint technical accuracy with everyday human benefit. An appropriate tone of voice was developed starting with the platform “Watching Our World, Watching Our Weather’.
The EUMETSAT brand structure revolves around five core channels, which we differentiated through colour. An illustrative style was developed from the circle shape of the brand mark globe icon which works throughout varying graphic and imagery requirements, allowing for flexibility whilst keeping the brand fresh and interesting.
The project culminated in the creation of a thorough and complex corporate guidelines programme, in particular an online brand repository which allows internal and external users of the brand to communicate EUMETSAT’s message effectively and consistently.
